Oh Call of Duty...never have I had such a dysfunctional relationship with a game than I do with the Call of Duty franchise of games. Every year I wait with everyone else to see what the newest entry will be and inevitably I buy it in hopes that it may actually go out on a limb and try something new and exciting that isn't a" safe play" from a previous year ( I'm looking at you Treyarch) . For the most part the series has maintained a decent quality level as far as graphics and story telling, last years Black Ops 4 notwithstanding.
The major beefs I have with the game is that the developers have been using the same bloody game engine for the past decade, even right down to recycled game assets borrowed from their previous years entry.
This years outing looks to be a return to its Modern roots and a huge gamble that rebooting its most successful sub series will see its fan base embrace the game like they did when Modern Warfare 2 launched in 2009.
Notable features that will make it's way into the final game are Cross Play with console and PC players as well as Co op modes and of course traditional PVP multiplayer
With word that they are using a new game engine and creating a realistic tone for the games campaign ( not to mention the return of Captain Price!) all signs point to a "rebirth" for the Call of Duty franchise this October.
